Topic #2 ALL Children Are Gifted… It’s Up To Us To Help Them Find Their Gifts!”
Did you know that IQ isn’t a fixed number as once thought? Were you aware that there are multiple ways of processing information and measuring intelligence? Once you’ve taken this class, you will never look at “intelligence” the same way again! The key is not to focus on the label that your child may or may not have, but to focus on your child!
Come and learn how to challenge, stretch, and expand your child’s world by learning how to help your child find his/her gifts and talents! In this class, we will explore multiple pathways of learning and retrieving information and how to give your child every opportunity to learn how he/she is gifted in their own way!!!!!! Give yourself the gift of recognizing incredible learning opportunities to make your child “smarter,” without even having to leave your own backyard!
Don’t miss this eye-opening class!
Topic #3 - Mirror, Mirror on the
Wall!
What message does your child "hear" when he/she looks in the mirror? Is the message one of confidence or doubt? Having a positive self-esteem is more than just telling your child positive things. Incorporating "Positive Discipline," using "Target Talk," knowing how to speak to your child so that he/she will REALLY listen, and how to give your child constructive feedback "in a sandwich" are all essential elements that you can use to raise emotionally healthy children! Come and learn as we explore how to utilize these positive parenting techniques, leading to a deep and genuine positive self-esteem within your child!
Topic #4 How Are You
Smart?
We used to ask, "How smart
are you?" Understanding current brain research, today we
can ask, "How are you smart?"
In 1983,
Harvard’s Dr. Howard Gardner developed the Theory of
Multiple Intelligences, or "8 Smarts," to help us
identify how we learn, so that we can make optimal use
of how our brains process information!
Our "8
Smarts" are:
Word Smart
Music Smart
Body Smart
People Smart
Number Smart
Picture Smart
Self Smart
Nature Smart
You will leave this class
with a better understanding of how each member of your
family learns, and how to develop areas of weakness into
strengths. Don't miss this informative class!
Topic #5 Understanding Learning and
Creating a Study Buddy!
Did you
know that there is a direct connection between our
experiences and our brain's dendritic growth? You will
be amazed to learn how our brain's can "get smarter"
through real life experiences and how you can use this
information to support your child's ability to make
connections about his/her learning and our world! This
invaluable information for parents will support your
ability to better "harness" this rich learning by
creating a "Study Buddy" for your child! In this
powerful class, you will learn how to deepen your
understanding of how to support your child's learning in
all subject areas...forever!
In this workshop
designed for parents of kids of all ages, we will
explore:
How to "springboard" academic success from the
activities/vacations you're already doing as a
family!
How to increase sensory input to your child's
brain, increasing the chance for unforgettable
learning!
How a "Study Buddy" becomes a source of "immediate
feedback" of learning for your child.
How your child can become more independent in
his/her study habits!
How your child will become a more interactive
source of his/her own learning!
These are such powerful strategies that you
will leave wishing that someone had created a Study
Buddy for YOU as a child!
Topic #6 - Mrs. Kling’s Math Mania for
Grownups!
Come and play! Taking some
of the most loved math games from "Mrs. Kling’s Math
Mania," Kari will teach you how to play numerous math
games to instill solid numerical frameworks at home!
These games will ensure mathematical success within your
child FOREVER!! Geared towards parents of children in
Kindergarten through 5th grade, your child will not
believe that math can be so much fun!!
Topic #7 - I Dunno... No
More!" or Bringing Out Higher Level Thinking in
Your Family!
Have you ever heard "I dunno" from your child when you’ve asked a question?
Most likely you have, and if you haven’t you probably
will! This class is for anyone wanting to learn how to
ask questions that lead to "higher level thinking"
during family activities and vacations.
Using
solid research from Bloom’s Taxonomy, you will
participate in an interactive "mystery" activity that
will engage your curiousity and model how to increase
higher level thinking opportunities in your family! You
will be so intrigued that you’ll want your entire family
to have the same experience at home!
Topic #8 - Talking Dollars and
Sense To Our Kids!
It’s no
secret that we are living in difficult economic times.
As tough as these times are for so many, they also offer
incredible opportunities to use these "teachable
moments" to allow our kids to learn some of the basic
fundamentals of creating and maintaining healthy
finances! Whether your child is 4 or 16 years old, you
will learn how to teach and model for him/her the
difference between needs and wants, multiple ways to
save money, make decisions about spending/giving/saving,
delaying gratification, understanding the dangers of
"compounded interest" associated with credit cards, and
how to build fiscally sound habits that will last a
lifetime!
(Please note: Kari Kling was recently
featured on KPNX Channel 12’s "School Solutions" with
Kim Covington, as well as interviewed in The Arizona
Republic’s Education section on this topic.)
Topic #9 Mommy, Were You Alive When The Dinosaurs Were On The Earth?
If you have ever been asked this question, then this class is for you! Did you know that the parts of the brain that are responsible for understanding the concept of historical time aren’t fully developed until a person is in their late teens or early 20’s? Did you also know that we are living in the “Information Age?” Due to recent technologies, so much new information is being generated in the world each day that students who enter kindergarten this year will have more to learn by 4th grade than their grandparents did in a lifetime?
Come and learn how to enrich and enhance your child’s abiility to process what he/she is learning and how to gain a richer understanding of historical events and how they relate to their lives today! In this class, you will create a personalized and interactive timeline to build on through high school! Learning about the world we live in will be made so much easier and enjoyable that your child will thank you!!!
(This class is geared for parents of children
between the ages of 5-16 and was recently highlighted in
an article in The Arizona Republic.)
Topic #10 If Only My High School Student
Could Have Better Focus and Learn to
Study!
Welcome to Study Skills! This
parent workshop, geared specifically to parents of high
school students, will greatly enhance your knowledge and
ability to help your high school student have increased
positive and effective study skills. How to use note
cards effectively, "Power Thinking," acronyms &
mnemonics, providing "self-feedback," and time
management/organization for your child are just some of
the techniques and strategies that will be explored.
During this workshop, parents will learn about
the human brain's different memory pathways and how
people can remember and retrieve information more easily
in efforts to support their high school student. Parents
will also learn how to help set the stage in terms of
the physical surroundings of a study area to
understanding the role that the student's own physical
responses play in focusing and retention. The research
is clear that increasing focus, organization, positive
attitudes, and utilizing effective study skills will
lead to greater understanding, retention, confidence and
better grades for the student. This class is so
